The Mount Aloysius College Bowling Club will host “Strike Out Hunger,” on October 29th, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. at High Rollers Lanes, Gallitzin, Pa. All profits will be donated to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Altoona, Pa.
Tickets are $20 and entitle participants to three games of bowling, free shoe rental and refreshments. Younger children who are unable to bowl three games can play by-the-game. Parents of younger children will not be charged the full $20 ticket and will, instead be charged by-the-game for these little ones. There will also be a basket raffle and 50/50 chances.
Families are encouraged to spend the day bowling and helping to Strike Out Hunger!
According to Jenna Weyandt, Mount Aloysius academic advisor and coordinator of Strike Out Hunger, last year’s event raised $1000 for the food pantry. “In addition to the funds raised through last year’s bowlers, a large amount of food was donated to The Blair County Teen Center and Shelter,” explained Ms. Weyandt. “This shelter serves runaways, homeless persons, and at-risk youth ages 12-17.”
Weyandt added that The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry of Altoona serves nearly 2,000 Central Pennsylvania residents per month.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Altoona-Johnstown Diocese was reorganized in 1981. Today, The Society has 21 parish conferences, eight thrift stores, five food pantries, two food distribution warehouses, a Youth Ministry program, two family kitchens, and a car distribution program.
