Join a park ranger for an exploration of the historic trace of the Allegheny Portage Railroad. On this strenuous, downhill hike over moderately uneven terrain you will discover the challenges faced by 19th century engineers whose work revolutionized travel westward.There is no fee for this program but space is limited and reservations are required. The hike begins at 10:00 am at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site Visitor Center and hiking boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Please bring water and a light snack. The hike takes about 5 hours and park staff will meet hikers at the trails end to shuttle them back to the visitor center.
