Here comes Peter Cottontail! It's almost time for Easter, and there's no shortage of fun coming up in Johnstown this April. Get prepped for the Easter Bunny's arrival with some candy from one of our local chocolatiers; Then grab your Easter baskets for an egg hunt!
Johnstown's Easter Traditions: Psanky Eggs
Psanky eggs are a traditional part of Ukrainian culture brought to Johnstown via our immigrants. These eggs have unique and detailed designs that often have very serious meanings. Gallery on Gazebo is hosting a Psanky workshop on April 9th to teach individuals about how to create these intricately designed eggs.
Jennifer Fleszar will lead a traditional egg-decorating class on Saturday, April 9th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Gallery. Every student will receive a kistka, candles, eggs, dyes, wax and printed materials. Students may take home their decorated eggs as well as the kistka, wax and printed materials. The class will teach all of the basic knowledge needed to continue making Pysanky. The symbols and motifs are simple geometric figures.
