Join SAMA Curator Dr. Scott Dimond for "Gaiety and Grit: John Sloan's New York City Life Series."  As a leader of the so-called Ashcan School, John Sloan introduced urban realism into the reperoty of American Art.  Among his many enduring images of early twentieth -century New York, the bod of etchings known as the New York City Life series stands out for its exceptional artistic and social content.  Fortunate in acquiring the entire series when it opened in 1976, SAMA is one of the few institutions that holds the complete set.  In honor of the Museum's 40th anniversary and this important acqusition, Dr Dimond will survey the New York City Life series, offering insights into Sloan, the Ashcan School, and the metropolis of a century ago.

Cost is $25 per person and includes a box lunch.
