The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto is pleased to announce its next exhibitions, Sacred Sisters by Holly Trostle Brigham and Women in Art: Selections from the Permanent Collection on display in museum’s Sullivan Gallery. These exhibitions will open Friday, October 18, 2019 and run through Saturday, January 19, 2019.
Brigham is a painter who creates life-sized figures in watercolor that depict historical and mythological women. Born in Carlisle, PA, Brigham studied Art History and Italian at Smith College. She went on to study Art History at the graduate level at the University of Pittsburgh, fine art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and then earned her M.F.A in Painting at the George Washington University. Brigham has taught at Pasadena City College, Worcester State College, the Worcester Art Museum and the Baum School of Art. Brigham currently resides in Philadelphia with her husband David, two children Noble and Flora and their Airedale Terrier Minnie.
This exhibition will focus on the talented female artists featured in SAMA’s permanent collection including Colleen Browning, Eleanor Zygler, Carole A. Feuerman, Joyce Korotkin and many more. Over the last 43 years, the permanent collection of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art has grown steadily from an original nucleus of less than 100 objects to a diverse cache of some 5,000 works of art. In accordance with the Museum’s mission, the SAMA collection has emphasized American art and the regional art of Pennsylvania.
