Moving back to autumn, the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial will host the third annual “Walk 93” on September 30, 2017. Family member Deborah Borza will speak to event participants in the Learning Center before the walk, with walkers being led down the 2.28-mile trail network by National Park Service interpretive rangers. Borza’s daughter, Deora Frances Bodley, was a passenger on board United Flight 93 and the youngest person on the flight at 20 years old.
The immersive walk at Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County honors the forty passengers and crew members, with proceeds supporting the design and construction of the future Temporary Memorial Trail at Flight 93 National Memorial.
Participants may take part in a brief dialogue with Borza and other Family members in the Learning Center before the ranger-led walk begins at at 9 a.m. This walk is non-competitive. Registered walkers will enjoy different perspectives of the memorial in the early morning light as well as a spectrum of vibrant colors that highlight Flight 93 and the fall foliage. The walk will encourage reflection about the events of September 11, 2001, and create awareness about the forty passengers and crew members of Flight 93.
The Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial, National Park Service, and Leadership Somerset County are asking the community to join them and Walk to Remember on September 30. This event is a way to pay tribute to the 40 Heroes, raise awareness and foster volunteerism and stewardship at the memorial.
