On September 7, 1923, Johnstown’s mayor gave every African-American and Mexican immigrant who had lived in the city less than seven years 24 hours to leave. About 2,000 people were uprooted. Come commemorate this incident at a presentation of Cody McDevitt’s book, Banished from Johnstown, and a panel discussion about sundown towns, banishments, and segregated neighborhoods in America. There will also be a photo exhibition and reception.
Panelists include Kourtney Square, Carol Francois, Cody McDevitt, and Jackie Gunby.
The presentation is free, but pre-registration is requested.
