Liberty Tree Planting to kick off Cambria County’s America250PA Observances

America 250 PA Cambria County

Johnstown, PA— Cambria County’s first official initiative in preparation for America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence will be the planting of a “Liberty Tree” at Sandyvale Memorial Gardens and Conservancy.  The planting ceremony will be held April 26, 2025, at 1 PM at 80 Hickory Street in Johnstown. The Liberty Tree Project is an official America250PA program.

The Pennsylvania Freemasons have partnered with America250PA to sponsor planting Liberty Trees in all sixty-seven Pennsylvania counties. The tree that will be planted at Sandyvale Memorial Gardens is a descendant of the last remaining Liberty Tree that stood in Annapolis, Maryland. To support this monumental event, 1st Summit Bank has graciously joined in sponsoring Cambria County’s Liberty Tree.

Nicki Waligora, Cambria County’s appointed representative to the America250PA Advisory Committee, said, “America250PA requested that all Liberty Trees be planted on land significant to the Revolutionary War. Because there are veterans of the Revolutionary War buried at Sandyvale, the location met the criteria for the tree planting. Sandyvale will be the perfect location for Cambria County’s Liberty Tree,” she added.

All community members are invited to attend the free event.

Cambria County recently formed a committee to orchestrate plans for the 250th anniversary observance. More details will be available at www.VisitJohnstownPA.com/America250CambriaCounty as plans progress.
